Psychological Services for children and adolesents
In the past many medical practitioners, paediatricians and psychiatrists, have felt that there has been an inadequate supply of high-quality affordable psychological services for children and adolescents. As a result, in many instances, the range of available therapies were limited.
Your partner in providing psychological services
to children and adolescents.
Gaining access to high-quality clinical and educational psychological services for children and adolescents, has now become easier.
Changes to the Medicare rebate system have meant that on Psych can now provide these services to your patients, in most areas.
These services are provided, on a bulk bill basis, at no cost to the patient.

If you’re looking for a high-quality convenient and professional psychological service to your patient, on Psych wants to partner with you.
We provide these services at your patients schools and work with their teachers and support staff.

We work in conjunction with Medical Practitioners and schools to provide bulk billed psychological services to children and adolescents.

Our Psychology service is independent, confidential and provided within school settings.

When a school believes that a student is in need of psychological support, the family will make an appointment to see a medical practitioner for an assessment under the Health Care Plan.

To enable the student to benefit from psychological assistance under the Health Care Plan, the medical practitioner bills the student using Medicare Item 2710.

Parents help their children from the moment they are born. Sometimes your child will face problems that parents have trouble helping them with. This can leave parents feeling powerless. As a parent you are never powerless. Seeking help from a psychologist in these situations can be of great benefit to parents and their child.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is this going to cost us?
Where students have a doctors referral onPsych psychologists bulk bill Medicare for their work. Parents will not have to pay for this support. Under some circumstances, parents and schools request special reports or assessments, usually for school funding applications. These services are not covered by Medicare and are charged to either the parent or school by prior negotiation.
onPsych does not work in our school, can we still get help?
Talk with the student wellbeing coordinator at your school about your concerns and ask them to contact onPsych.

How long will it take before a Psychologist can see my child?
This depends upon a number of factors such as location, the number of students in the school referred, and the availability of psychologists in the area. This can vary from 1 day to 1 term. For more urgent cases consider alternatives for support. For emergencies always contact 000.

Is the psychologist going to snoop into our family?
Psychologists help people to learn new skills and develop new ways to deal with the demands of their life. They do not collect confidential information for the sake of it. When they do discuss sensitive family matters, they treat this information with professional confidentiality.

Do we have anything to fear from a psychologist?
Psychologists work with children to help them, however in some states Psychologists are required by law to report suspected abuse.

Should I meet with the Psychologist before they begin to work with my child?
We would recommend that you ask the school when the psychologist is scheduled to see your child for the first time so you can meet with them and ask any questions you may have.

How do I contact the psychologist working with my child?
Please feel free to contact the psychologist by asking

onpsych is committed to developing strong relationships with the Student Welfare Coordinators in all participating schools. We believe that when we work closely with the school, we create a synergy that produces an effective and efficient psychological service to students and schools.
We recognize the crucial role played by the student welfare coordinators. Student welfare coordinators are not responsible for delivering all the welfare services that students require. Their job is to coordinate the delivery of those services.
Many student welfare coordinators feel that the range of services available to suit their students needs is inadequate. Psychologistsfrom on psych give student welfare coordinators a wider range of service options, to suit a wider range of students.
Where the supply of psychological services to schools has been inadequate to meet the demand, generally only high priority students were able to access psychological services. This is the squeaky wheel phenomena. In many instances this resulted in urgent cases taking priority over important cases.
To illustrate this point, it is often the case that students presenting with aggressive attention seeking behaviour, under threat of either suspension or expulsion, are given the highest priority of service. However, many other students who have long term underlying problems, such as depression, anxiety or poor social skills, are given low priority, depending on the workload. This unfortunate situation often means that the students who have the most to gain from psychological support can sometimes be unable to access it.

Research has shown that many students with poor social skills, which often lead to high levels of anxiety, respond very quickly to psychological intervention and make rapid gains resulting in higher levels of self-confidence and social skills.

Because psychologists from on Psych are independent of the school system, student welfare coordinators are able to refer students for psychological support who may not be otherwise eligible for support.

Please contact us so we may assist you further.
